ZERO PROJECT CONFERENCE 2026
From February 18–20, 2026, MATTERs will be speaking at the the Zero Project Conference 2026.
The conference will bring together participants from around the world at the United Nations Office in Vienna, Austria. This year’s focus topics are Accessibility, ICT, and Crisis Response. The conference agenda will center on innovative solutions that have been evaluated and selected through an extensive research process—the Zero Project Awardees 2026. TRANSFORMATION of BARN INTO A NEW HOUSE FOR MOVEMENT FOR YOUNGSTERS.Cureently we are in the process of transforming an old, typical barn in Torup into a new hub for hanging out and movement.
Through close user involvement, we have been filled with ideas and visions which, through creativity and an out-of-the-box mindset, form the foundation for the new space. We love the challenge: how, through innovative and strong architectural interventions, we can create new spatial possibilities for users— inspiring, modern, and vibrant environments that invite community and a sense of ownership. We aim to create spatial experiences and architecture where the interplay between the old and the new gives the building its own distinctive DNA.
ZERO PROJECT ART AWARDEE 2026
We’re excited to share that Heerup School has been selected as a Zero Project art Award 2026!
The Zero Project recognises global innovations that advance the rights of persons with disabilities, and we are honoured that our work has been acknowledged for its impact and scalability. The former Frederiksgård school 1.0 has been completely transformed: dark corridors have become bright, flexible group rooms, and new movement, sensory, and community areas have been created. By reimagining the building, we have developed a clear, accessible environment that supports well-being and learning for highly sensitive children. As part of this recognition, we will present our innovation at the Zero Project conference 2026 at the united nations in Vienna. Learn more at zeroproject.org and via this link: https://www.mttrs.dk/heerup-skole1.html STATENS KUNSTFOND FINALISTS
We’re excited to share that the team we’re part of—collaborating with slow works (Benthe & Troels Schwarz) and including landscape architect Christine Steffensen—has been selected as one of three finalists out of 88 teams!
Commissioned by Statens Kunstfond and Brønderslev Kommune, the competition invites us to create a unique, artistic shelter spot in the hilly, Ice Age-shaped landscape of Jyske Ås in North Jutland —close to the historic Hærvejen Trail. Building on our experience from various nature-based projects, we’re thrilled to contribute to a place that brings together art, nature, and local history—offering a meaningful pause for hikers, cyclists, and families. We’re now entering the next phase of the competition, where we’ll shape the vision for the shelter spot together!
HISTORIC LOA FUNDING FOR STRANDLIVETS RUM OG RAMMER
We’re proud to share that our proposal for Havhuset—a maritime centre on Møn, together with four other coastal projects have been granted historically big funding by the Danish Foundation for culture and sports facilities, LOA through the projects “Strandlivet Rum og Rammer”/“The Spaces and Framing of Seaside Life.”
These news means that Havhuset, a centre for education, tourism, activities, and biodiversity, will be realized. We’re happy to be part of this project and excited to see what the future of Klintholm Harbour holds. COMING SOON

HAVHUSET - Klintholm Havn, Møn
Together with the users, we are working to create a new maritime center in Klintholm Harbour. With a focus on regenerative cultivation of mussels, oysters, and seaweed, as well as new fish nurseries, the harbour will become a new destination on Møn.
Learning and dissemination are key, and therefore the maritime center not only invites the local community in, but also schools, families, and tourists. Here, everyone will have access to much more knowledge about life in the sea.

For us at Matters, this project reflects what we truly believe in: we want to find the soul of a place and be a driver for positive change. We believe that architecture fundamentally provides a platform for human activity—building meaningful relationships between people and a space.
TRAILCENTER RYTTERKNÆGTEN - OFFICIALLY OPEN!
Such a fantastic celebration with many nature enthusiasts on Bornholm. The building is designed for a wide variety of users, needs and wishes, while being careful to respect nature around it. The trailcentre flows around trees in the landscape, is elevated above the delicate forest floor ecosystem and in vertical joints, traditional wood nails are replacing metal ones, to reduce metal use.
The stairs from the existing Rytterknægt Tower have been repurposed and upcycled into benches and tables, while the timber for the new structure is sourced from a nearby sawmill and crafted by local carpenters. Big thanks to the many wonderful users, partners and colleagues!
