TRAILCENTER - BORNHOLM
The Trailcenter at Rytterknægten is part of the partnership project "DanskeTrailcentre", where DIF, the Local & Infrastructure Foundation and 5 municipalities have developed facilities that will support both current and new users to meet in nature around an active outdoor life. It must function as an introductory gateway to active outdoor life for the new visitors to nature and raise the level of service for the many established user groups. A key idea has been to create a good framework for the meeting between the forest's user groups in one facility, where everyone is welcome.
Nature has become many people's new favorite exercise arena and is therefore an important catalyst for health, both physically and mentally. The aim is that the Trailcenter will play a significant role for both parts, as a central meeting point that can support activity and community across many groups, both associations and self-organised ones.
The project's content and design have been created through a very broad and creative user involvement process, where all those involved can see or recognize many of their inputs reflected in the future Trailcenter. In addition, the Trailcenter has been designed with a great understanding of the area's distinctive nature and Rytterknægten's iconic location in the middle of Almindingen. The trail center consists of a platform that floats above the forest floor and stretches its 'arms' out into the surrounding nature and which contains various accommodation options + zones for e.g. bicycle service and storage of various equipment. It contains a 100m2 covered area, where there will be room for living, storage, a dining area with an outdoor kitchen and a communication area that will provide visitors with knowledge of paths and routes, and insight into the nature of the area. Of the 100 m2, 20 m2 will be a heated room where you can seek shelter when the weather gets too cold.
The project shows a new form of meeting places in nature, where there is a strong focus on creating sustainable facilities that are shared across users, and where the need for heated square meters is extremely limited.
