VALLENSBÆK SWIMMINGPOOLS
TRANSFORMATION PROJECT
The swimming pools at Pilehaveskolen and Egholm School will be closed, as a large new swimming pool complex will be established in Vallensbæk. The task for MATTERS architects has therefore consisted of investigating the possibilities of transforming existing swimming pools into a new creative meeting place for the schools.
The users at the two schools have been involved in workshops where options and scenarios have been discussed and inputs implemented. At both schools, the desire was that the new meeting places, in addition to having a social function, should be connected to creative opportunities and contain workshops and various creative spaces. In the workshops, the users - especially with a focus on the children - had plenty of opportunity to comment, come up with ideas and wishes.
The idea of the transformation of the swimming pools is about creating socially sustainable places - a small village - that can be used both during the day and in the evening. The locations will form a framework for gatherings and larger events in beautiful, inviting settings, while also offering an inspiring, cozy and socially creative environment where you can meet and be creative in small groups.
In addition, there is great potential in opening the rooms more and creating synergies with the surrounding rooms and the context outside. Spatially, it is desired to retain the impressive high space of the swimming halls. This type of space is not readily available elsewhere in the schools and can therefore offer a different scale that can complement the school's existing spaces in a new and exciting way.
There is potential for the transformation of the Swimming Pools to become new creative cultural centers for both the school and the local community.
